Courtland Fire Destroys Lumber Yard and Elevator
A spark from an eastbound freight locomotive through Courtland ignited the Fullerton Lumber Co. sheds and an abandoned Jennison Bros. elevator, swiftly burning to ashes. Firemen and nearby farmers fought the blaze as several nearby structures caught fire, with authorities later estimating losses around seven thousand dollars for the lumber yard and substantial sums for the elevator and adjacent buildings.

Old Fort Road to Be Improved in Nicollet County
Nicollet county receives two new appropriations of 2500 for roads and bridges under a pork barrel bill. The board of county commissioners will spend 3000 on improving the historic Fort Ridgely road built after Fort Ridgely and Lower Sioux agency established. The 14 townships served by this road stretch over about forty miles. Ten New Ulm bowlers beat Mankato in three straight games, totaling 4591 pins to 4048. R F Lamb of Slayton named truancy officer for the district to handle child labor and school attendance. Mayer Brothers of Mankato turn over foundry and machine shop to Henry J. Leonard as trustee due to bond default. Bond issue 250,000 with floating debt around 415,000.

Aged Lady Dies in Home Fire Tragedy
The Springfield Advance reports the death of ninety year old Mrs. Anna Schmid, mother of Wolfgang Schmid and Mrs. M Lehrer. Left alone by a granddaughter, a stove fire in proximity to clothes caused intense heat and smoke. The granddaughter returned, entered through a window, and found Mrs. Schmid dead near the doorway, likely attempting to put out the blaze.

Fair Secretaries Meet to Plan Circuit Bookings
A Short Ship circuit meeting in Mankato decided to send representatives to Albert Lea in June to coordinate bookings with Albert Lea and Northern Iowa circuits. No gambling or games of chance will be allowed at fairs in the circuit. Adolph Harmeister from Mankato attended along with reps from St. Peter Winona and New Ulm.

Friday May 3rd a dinner at the Dakota House honored Wm. R. Wylie of the John Leslie Paper Co. in Minneapolis. Gov. Johnson's staff member received a sword from about twenty friends and associates, with toastmaster Geo. W. Barnes presenting Gen. Bob Leter and others delivering brief remarks. The gift looked like a general’s sabre and included congratulatory telegrams.

Accused of Child Murder Now Mrs John Galles
