Gold Found on Bier Farm Along Cottonwood River

Prospectors report a sand ledge on the Bier farm near the Cottonwood River, with samples showing traces of gold. Hubert Berg and Fred Kretsch purchase the 237 acre farm for 9100 dollars and plan mining with Bernhard’s proposed equipment. Assays by John Neumann and Philip Bernhard’s Colorado lab indicate gold, bolstered by state university professor Appleby findings, making the venture seem promising.

Court To Open Brown County Spring Term Next Tuesday

The district court of Brown county will convene in this city next Tuesday morning. One case listed is the State of Minnesota vs Peter MacLinn, with several more possible. Stone company kept busy with granite macadam work

Ramsey county commissioners asked the New Ulm Stone company to supply 20,000 cubic yards of crushed granite for street macadamizing. A contract will be signed soon, with about 600 carloads total and enough to run the plant for over a hundred days. Additional orders include 120 carloads for Grand and Prosperity avenues in Saint Paul. Sleepy Eye ordered 50 cars for its main street. The granite is praised as ideal for road work. In Maine Arbor Day proclamation the forests are called the state’s heritage. Sleepy Eye’s Rev Fritze was invited to deliver a baccalaureate sermon in Charles City on June 2. Daniel Webster flour uses thoroughly washed kernels, yielding fine bread color. 1811 Thomas French, former Sleepy Eye barber, was crushed by two railroad cars and had his leg amputated.

Twenty Years a Salesman Ends Long Service at John Neumann Store

The city honors Hubert Berg for twenty years with John F. Neumann. Berg rose from salesman to general manager before resigning to pursue a new venture. Neumann retires, and the store faces leadership changes as attention turns to other local notes.

City selects J R Thompson as new city engineer

At a Thursday aldermen meeting, J R Thompson of Mankato was elected city engineer, replacing Oscar Palmer. The year’s salary is 1240 dollars. Thompson, longtime Mankato engineer, had retired yesterday to yield to M B Haynes and had multiple offers, including from New Ulm. He will not move his family immediately but plans to work locally.

Tragic double shooting rocks New Auburn village

In New Auburn Sib ley county a man named Harry Dresser killed Harold Reimer with a shotgun and then shot himself. Neighbors describe Dresser as troubled yet not dangerous and note the boy had been closely attached to him. The tragedy stirred deep sorrow across the community.

The New Ulm Regulars lost to Gibbon 4 to 3 in a tight Sunday tilt. Stonewalls overwhelmed the Gibbon Juniors 16 to 2 at Searles. Daniel Websters fell 15 to 14 to the Searles Giants at Searles. Nicollet edged Blue Ribbons 9 to 8 at Courtland. Springfield High beat Dr Martin Luther College 9 to 2 at the fairgrounds, with strong Springfield batting. Springfield also defeated Redwood Falls 9 to 2. Next Sunday matchups: New Ulm Regulars vs Sleepy Eye, Stonewalls vs Gibbon, Blue Ribbons vs Linden.
