Two Stills and Much Mash Found in Raids
Federal agents raided Nicollet county on Wednesday finding two copper stills with capacities of 80 and 20 gallons. About 100 gallons rye mash at the Platimann farm and 50 gallons mash plus a gallon of moonshine at the Haas farm were seized. A quart of moonshine was found behind a Nicollet bar. No arrests. three men warned. First raid in Nicollet county.

Ex-New Ulmite lives amid violent ranch assault near Bonners Ferry
C W Heidemann former New Ulm resident and Johns Hopkins graduate was shot three times and struck with a rock at a ranch near Bonners Ferry Idaho by his employer George Yodelkranz. Heidemann hospitalized with doubtful recovery while Yodelkranz remains at large and may be insane. Heidemann, longtime New Ulm station agent and Brown County legislator, was a noted horticulturist and seed potato expert with several plum varieties developed on his estate.

Will Ship Corn for Near East Relief By County Bureau
Nicollet County Farm Bureau plans to ship two carloads of white corn to the Near East. Date of shipment will be announced soon. Farmers willing to donate should notify O. O. Sleepy Eye Band Debuts Under Hofmeister Leadership
The Sleepy Eye band, led by Prof. Hofmeister, made its first public appearance on four intersections. The youth group plans 30 to 40 pieces and drew praise from residents. Fundraising by George Berkner and Charles Palmer raised nearly $900 quickly, with only seventeen business houses solicited. The concerts this summer are seen as a bright citywide feature. Narrow Escape On Road Project In Lafayette Township
Albert F Hoffmann the new road boss in District 2 Lafayette township had luck on his first day at work when his road machine animals bolted dragging him a short distance. He escaped injury though one wheel was severely damaged. The team ended up in John Guggisberg's barnyard after entering the pasture.

Two New Hog Barns Planned for Nicollet County Fair
A joint Nicollet County Agricultural Society and Livestock Breeders' Association meeting in St. Peter outlined plans for two large hog barns at the Nicollet County Fair Grounds. The 120 by 20 foot structures, costing about 2000 dollars, will house around 200 hogs and mirror barns at the State Fair Grounds with 6 by 8 foot pens. The University Farm will provide detailed plans, and University input will refine costs as carpenters remodel the former Crane Bros department store into a ready to wear section.

Charles Kuehlbach declared his candidacy for the Third ward against William S. Vercoe as City Clerk William P. Backer filed Vercoe’s nominating petition Monday morning. At a Sunday meeting the board and building committee rejected all general contract bids for the proposed St Pauls Ev Lutheran church addition because total cost would exceed the $85 000 subscribed. Architect A G Plagens to redraw plans to cut costs with completion expected by late April. The 50x70 foot plan was adopted with lot size adjusted. bids for the 50x80 and 60x70 additions ranged from about 29 663 to 86 518 with several firms bidding from New Ulm Mankato St Paul and Minneapolis.
