Contracts Set For Hospital Construction In St Paul
At a Monday board meeting of the Union Hospital Association bids were approved for a new three story brick hospital with annex. Otto Neike of Mankato won the general contract at 236987, with Geo N McGary of St Paul to install heating and A Richter Plumbing Co and A Hubbard Electric Co securing sub contracts. The project includes a 44 by 90 foot main block, a two story annex, a cistern, engine room, mud baths, sun porches and sound dampening interiors.

August Hellmann and Henry Vajen, early New Ulm pioneers, died within days of each other. Hellmann, aged 91 years 6 months and 3 days, passed at his North Broadway home after kidney trouble and uraemic poisoning. Vajen, age about 87, died after a life spanning Germany to New Ulm and Omaha, with sons and daughters among surviving relatives. funeral held under Masonic auspices at the Masonic Hall.

Obituary of New Ulm pioneer Hellmann and Henry Vajco
Mr Hellmann aided New Ulm during the Indian outbreak and earned a Minnesota pension for his defense work. He later served as a Civil War mechanic, owned a wagon shop until 1885, and belonged to Hecker Post Denkman Lodge and New Ulm Turner society. Survived by children in Chicago Lisette Minneapolis Milwaukee and others. funeral at Turner Hall with E. J. Buehrer speech. Burial in city cemetery. Henry Vajco also died this week in New Ulm.

Fire in Switch Engine 513 Cab Rescued by Firefighters
Andrew Daley and Otto of Northwestern acted as fire fighters last Saturday to extinguish a blaze in the cab of Switch Engine No. 513. The wind spread the fire before they reached the scene, the cab was badly damaged, and the engine taken to Waseca for repairs the same day. A motorist nearby failed to call the firehouse in time. Additionally, Wm. Schuck, Pleasant Ridge Dairy owner, reports he was not summoned to court over adulterated milk despite a complaint alleging butter fat below standard. He cites recent cattle bought as the cause and notes efforts to improve quality as more milk is produced.
