Great Loss of Life in West Virginia Flood Ravages Keystone
West Virginia disaster reports estimate 200 to 600 deaths as Keystone and surrounding Pocahontas coal region are inundated by a violent storm and flood. Elkhorn Creek rises, rail lines, bridges, coke plants and dozens of buildings are destroyed. Officials fear mass casualties with Keystone largely washed away and relief operations delayed by high water and severed communications.
