The annual school meeting held Saturday re elected A. F. Reim and John Henle to terms expiring. Finances show 9035 dollars for teachers salaries 1235 35 for fuel 1001 for bond interest 849 for three janitors salaries 677 pupils entitled to state apportionment and 70 pupils in the high school. The new school house construction and expenses are noted as well met with the New Ulm district praised for economy and merit though voting was light.

Railroad Line Rumor: Evan to Marshall Nears Start

The Redwood Gazette cites the Marshall News-Messenger asserting the Chicago and Northwestern will build a new line into Marshall before snow, starting at Evan on the Redwand branch, seven miles from Sleepy Eye, via Wabissa and the Sanborn to Vesta route. Surveyors have been working for three weeks and were in Marshall Wednesday evening.

Blizzard Day Elks Blamed For Cold Reception At Mankato

New Ulm excursionists rode a special train of nearly four hundred to Mankato for a Blizzard carnival. Death of A J Grimmer and public life in Browne County

The death of A J Grimmer of this place on Friday last leaves a prominent Browne County figure. Grimmer, longtime resident, once served as register of deeds from 1884 to 1892 and earlier worked at the Burg cigar factory. Buried Monday from the Lutheran church, his funeral drew many relatives and friends, with ministers as pallbearers. Relatives from out of town attended, including Rev Fettinger, Mrs Muel ler, and others. Relatives and community mourn the loss of a man noted for striving to do right.

Storm demolishes Crone Bros. barn injuring two men

A valley storm destroyed Crone Bros. farm barn north of the city, burying August Woodman and Wu Thawlitz under wreckage but with only minor injuries. Eight horses escaped unharmed as granary and nearby buildings were displaced. Crone’s insured for $3,000 to aid rebuilding.
