Ghurgh’s Golden Jubilee Celebrates St George Parish
West Newton honors the fiftieth anniversary of St George parish on July 29 with ceremony and music. Founded in 1858 the parish began with a log church built that year, later rebuilt under Rev Bernhard and Rev Moon. The present church and residence arose during Rev Reinhard’s tenure, the hall under Rev Vonderlage, and Rev Pozex has led since 1905. The congregation now comprises about 140 families.

Lakeview encampment trains Minnesota guardsmen in new rifles
The Second Minnesota National Guard regiment, including Company A of New Ulm and the New Ulm band, camps at Lakeview near Lake City for ten days of intense duty. New Springfield rifles arrive recently with limited ammo, delaying marksmanship practice. Col. Arthur W. Wright plans advanced guard duties and exercises, while officers and noncommissioned officers conduct schools and drills. Adulterated flour warns and bread solves divorce problem
Dr H W Wiley head of the national pure food commission told the American Biscuit Bakers association in Atlantic City that good bread would reduce the American divorce issue. He blamed chemicalized bleaching and poor flour for domestic unhappiness, urging better bread and education to boost home life. Kidnapping at Lafayette Prompts Police Report
New Ulm police were notified Friday of a kidnapping case at Lafayette involving Gary King a thirteen year old in the employ of A Ware manager of an Uncle Tom's Cabin tent show. The boy was taken by a rough stranger who did odd jobs for the show and gave free street exhibitions. The bond to the mother for the boy's care was posted but the man and boy disappeared before tracing could be made.

Montgom eries Sentenced In Washington Case
E T Montgomery a former Minnesota hotel operator in Elk Washington is sentenced to five to twenty years for assaulting a 15 year old girl. His brother Harry receives a one to fourteen year indeterminate term for attempted murder of the girl's mother Mrs May North. Harry was bribed with mining stock and the instigator later married the injured woman to avoid prosecution. Both Montgomeries are former residents of Waseca.
