Heating Plant Work Under Way in City

Work on the largest municipal heating plant is being pushed ahead with contractor W A Rupen of Healy Heating Co supervising. Crews will expand to about 25 locally sourced workers as mains are laid and basements opened. The job aims to finish by September 15, with 800 ft of 10 inch main and related lines to power house connections.

Healy Company Rents Metazin Ger Basement for Plant

Plans call for underground piping including 1400 feet of 6 inch and 1400 feet of 2 1/2 inch for basements and connections with mains. The Healy Company rents the Metazin ger basement as store room and office. The plant will supply heat to about 50 consumers, some with two or three buildings, and private homes on the street may also obtain heat from the plant.

Merchants Decide On Trade Reform In New Ulm

Merchants of New Ulm vote to end house to house solicitations and urging customers to call in orders early for noon and evening meals. Most retailers have signed the pact to standardize delivery, halt door to door selling and observe holidays closing all day including New Year Memorial Day Fourth of July Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Mission Festival at Court Land Courtyard Gathering

A joint Mission Festival was held by Courtland and Nicollet Lutheran churches in the grove by Courtland church. A large crowd attended as ideal weather blessed the outing. Rev. August Bode of Good Thunder spoke morning. Prof. E. R. Bleifericht of Dr. Martin Luther College preached afternoon. Courtland Band provided music.

Annual treasurer and clerk report summarize district finances for the year. Receipts total 54231 with bond sale and tax revenue boosting funds. largest expense is teachers salaries at 22858.92. Other costs include interest 1544.08, improvements 5874.67, books and supplies 62942.36, operating 7618.29, maintenance 4651.10. Normal Dept costs 245.27. Note paid on notes 11000. Election set for July 15 with incumbents Herman Held and Prof A F Reim up for re election. board praised for conduct, challengers unlikely but possible.

Car Blaze Destroys 114 Model Auto Near New Ulm

On Sleepy Bye road two miles from New Ulm a car owned by Stanis Sperl exploded into flames after the carburetor backfired. Fire spread rapidly. by the time help arrived, the vehicle was a total loss except for some tires. Sperl blamed a broken carburetor glass caused by a stone. Insurance covered the loss. the 114 model car cost about 1500 new.

New Ulm Skat Players Attend Milwaukee Convention

New Ulm sent eight players led by Charles Stuebe Sr to the national skat league meeting in Milwaukee. By Saturday night 3600 players registered with 500 more expected. the local group hoped for a prize of 31000 but entry success looked slim. John Backer and Paul Hackbarth, the two shoe men on the team, earned small prizes with solo and tournee victories amid strong competition.

Band Master Visits Home In New Ulm

Captain Jos Hofmeister visited the city for a few hours on Friday and then returned to Camp Bobleter. He told Review reporters he expected to keep the 2nd Regiment Band for New Ulm, stating this as the main reason for delaying his discharge.

Milford Farmer Paralyzed After Runaway Horse Accident

Adolph Falk, a Milford farmer, was nearly killed when a frightened horse ran away, dragging a hay wagon over him and fracturing his lower spine. He suffered complete paralysis at first, but by Tuesday some movement returned and hopes for recovery grew. Falk, middle aged, with a wife and three children, has lived in Milford many years.

Honor Deceased Member At Huntera Rest Shooting

The Sunday shoot at Huntera Rest honored late Ernst Brandt with the club firing a shot for memory. Brandt helped found the club and remained a member. Ben Marti had a near accident when his feet tangled with a moving wagon wheel and he was bumped.
