A rural life conference for Minnesota teachers and community leaders will be held July 19 and 20 at the University of Minnesota Agricultural Department. The event aims to assemble several hundred attendees to discuss country life tasks during national stress. Ken Butterfield, president of the Massachusetts cultural college, will give at least two addresses.

Absent minded professor loses own car in small town mix up
Hugo O Schleuder left his car in front of a government building after a stop at the post office and store. An hour later he saw it missing and notified police. Investigation showed he had simply forgotten the vehicle and left it in front of the post office. County Attorney A Frederickson was in Springfield last week.

Young Bather Otto Teynor Drowns at Cottonwood River
The 18 year old Otto Teynor died in an accidental drowning at the Cottonwood River dam near town. He slipped at a swim slide and was carried under the dam. authorities found him about an hour later. Coroner’s jury ruled accidental death with no negligence. He was born in Gibbon August 20 1897 and lived in this city most of his life. Survived by parents and three brothers Arthur Roman and Joseph with last named in Crosby ND arriving tonight. Funeral at Catholic church Thursday.

Severe Wind Storm Hits County Weekender Visit
County Treasurer Henry J Berg and family with Clerk of the Court and Mrs. Carl P Manderfeld spent Sunday in Burnstown where a severe wind and rain storm with some hail swept the county west end in mid afternoon. Trees and about twenty telephone poles between Sleepy Eye and Cobden were blown down and a road on the Black and Yellow trail west of Sleepy Eye was left in poor condition. Jessie Ames a transient farm hand from Omaha faced Justice Henningsen Monday charged with drunkenness and paid 8.55 to regain liberty.

Former New Ulm Resident Dies at Westbrook Home
Julia Johanna Jahnke, wife of August Jahnke and sister of William Jahnke of New Ulm, died at their Westbrook home on June 29 after illness. Born June 24, 1848 in Germany, she married August Jahnke in 1865 and immigrated to America in 1866. The family moved from a Cottonwood County farm to Westbrook in 1903. funeral was held at the Lutheran Church on July 2.

Linden farmer Ole Jorgensen drowns saving chicks
Ole Jorgensen a prominent Linden farmer died last Saturday afternoon when he fell into a water tank while rescuing chicks. Born January 26 1889 in Norway he immigrated in 1867 and settled in Linden. A longtime public servant he helped establish the state road through Linden and served as deputy auditor and county commissioner. Funeral services were held at the Hanska Lutheran church.

Husband Held For Attempted Murder In Eden Township
Anton Schreiner a farmer from Eden township nine miles north of Sleepy Eye, was arraigned on a charge of threatening to kill his wife Margaret Schreiner. Held to grand jury under $3,000 bail, he remained in county jail after defaulting bonds. Mrs Schreiner testified to threats and a gun pointed at her on July 3 near the granary. their 17 year old son corroborated. Schreiner denied intent to shoot, claiming he found the gun dirty and only cleaned it. The court found sufficient evidence to bind him over to the higher court.

Charles W. Smith of Cherokee Iowa returned home after a several day visit to New Ulm recounting his Civil War era life. A former resident from the 1860s he fought during the August 1862 attacks and massacres and later lived on a Sleepy Eye area farm. He and Richard Pfefferle visited the Review office to share memories.
