Horses Killed By Train In Milford Tragedy
Four valuable horses and a suckling colt owned by William Hoffmann of Milford township were killed or maimed when they wandered onto a Chicago and North Western right of way. An extra freight train driven by Conductor Gunb and Engineer Carroll struck the animals at a trestle, three killed instantly and two injured and later dispatched. Hoffmann’s loss is estimated at 50 to 700 dollars, to be paid by the railroad.

Man thrown from moving train near river bridge injures spine
Benjamin Fredrickson of Hanska sustains severe spinal injuries after falling from a northbound Minneapolis and St. Louis passenger train near the Minnesota river bridge two miles north of New Ulm. He was found unconscious by local boys and rushed to St. Alexander hospital. Doctors report a bad back swelling but no spinal cord damage yet, and recovery prospects remain uncertain with time.

A New Ulm fireworks day left many youths with burns and singed features. Reported injuries include a 10-year-old boy whose trousers caught fire, a 17-year-old with facial burns from a lead-pipe cannon, a 13-year-old with eye damage, and an 18-year-old blinded briefly by a premature cannon blast. Dozens more minor accidents were noted as doctors treated burns and powder injuries. Across the state, over 1,200 serious casualties were tallied for the holiday period.

Officer Josh Tater raided a gang of beggars early Thursday, arresting four. two escaped. One fought, tearing cloth from the police uniform. The others surrendered. In Judge Henningsen's court Prank Ritter got ten days for being debauched. Harry McKee and Matwice Fitzgerald were sentenced to five days. Prank Moore received five days for vagrancy with probation. Gerald Fitzgerald and others were assigned street labor and given leave of New Ulna to depart.
