A Deserved Tribute to W H McLennan and News of Local Life

W H McLennan departs New Ulm for a senior dispatch role at C N W in Winona after years as telegrapher and cashier. Friends present a gold watch case and chain with a testimonial from about fifty local businesspeople and friends. Also notes the McLennan departure, a marriage in Essig between Jerry Reardon and Anna Gulden, local tax payments, first Turner Hall attraction Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and annual summaries from Hauska and Linden Creamery with record milk receipts and distributions.

New Ulm Named District Head for Turn Fest 1901

Delegates from the New Ulm Turn Verein returned from Wahpeton after a highly active district meeting. New Ulm was chosen as district head for the coming year and will appoint officers. A Turn Fest is planned for the latter part of June with gymnastic exhibitions and social events. The next district meeting will be hosted by West St. Paul in January 1902.

Turner Hall Opening Delights New Ulm Turnverein Guests

Saturday marks the formal dedication of the new Turner hall hailed as a modern theatre. A J Alwin will speak in English with Col William Pfaender delivering the German address. The Turner orchestra will provide music, followed by a banquet and a chance to dance as parquet is shifted for the floor.

The Platform Meeting at Congregational Church

A large audience attended the platform meeting at the Congregational Church last Sunday evening. E R Barger spoke on the business man in the church with humor and clarity. E Roe of the New Ulm Business College followed on The Businessman in Business and impressed all with his insight and learning. Updyke closed with notes on the Christian man in business, and the service ended with a benediction, leaving the gathering spiritually uplifted.

Real estate transfers and marriage licenses week ending Jan 23

Real estate transfers list includes Sven Aspalund to John Aspalund for 80 acres, Ole Synesthy to Jacob Synsteby 80 acres, Harry L Jenkins to Ole Synateby Lot 23 Block 10 Hanska, and other parcel changes. Marriage licenses issued for week ending Jan 22 include Robert Miles and Clara Hazel Gupton, Andrew Spel and Catherine Schiffert, Jerry Reardon and Anna Guiden among others. The remainder reflects local notices and a reflective editorial on boys entering business roles and a sympathy note for a community member.
