Exemptions, deductions, and depreciation rules are outlined with emphasis on full reporting and penalties for noncompliance.
State game and fish commissioner allows residents to fish from shallow lakes in Nicollet Sibley and Le Sueur counties including Abts Lake Lake Prairie Swan Lake Courtland Granby Brighton Bucks Horse Shoe Long Scotch to save fish for food amid winter ice mortality. Local warden Peter Karpen led the action under a statewide food conservation drive.
Brown County records close a lengthy term dominated by ditch case trials. Jurors returned verdicts totaling damages and benefits for Lien and Pernboehr families, with one case settled by costs and another postponed to May term. The court adjourned after assessing damages in multiple actions and a bastardy proceeding.

Eagle Milling Co reported 1917 gross receipts of 10.67 million with grain purchases over four million bushels. Despite high costs for salaries taxes and rail transport the firm earned a handsome profit and decided to share with employees via a bonus. A letter to workers outlined the plan.
At the semi annual county commissioners meeting in the court house Herman Polkow was reelected chairman and J P Graff vice chairman. The board verified a county treasury total of 53906.46 with 43000 on time certificates, 1624.50 cash and orders and the rest in checking. Milford requested 400 for half the cost of two bridges in Section 8, approved. Milford graveling of state road 9 and completion of a steel bridge cost 813.50, with 800 allowed. A new 34 by 60 barn for the poor farm was authorized. Salaries for county officers were set, and contracts for janitor duties were discussed. The board scheduled a joint session with Nicollet County for January 18 to discuss the Cummings bridge and county printing bids.
Geo. W. Haynes, a member of the high school faculty, has resigned his position as instructor at Manual Train. The notice notes his departure from the teaching staff and cites standard formal resignation language.
