Ved A Meine, longtime Columbia Clothing employee, leaves to start his own business. Deputy Sheriff Beatty of Lamberton has been appointed to succeed Henry Hiow who died in a recent accident.

Last Thursday a nearly 80 year old Nicollet County pioneer Christian Stolt native of Prussia born 1842 arrived in 1607 with parents served in Civil War 1861–64 later farmed in Nicollet survived by wife and ten children funeral at his home then Lutheran church with Rev. Strasen officiating.

Chief Engel opened the midnight greetings as families mixed with friends in a jovial celebration.
The New Ulm Rural Telephone Company reports that on December 24 operators handled 16 286 calls. Between 9 and 10 they took 1 627 calls, an average of 400 per operator, four times the usual daily requirement, making December 24 a very hard day for the Hello Girls and their patience.
A badly scalded Santa Claus figure, Martin Mueller, suffered a severe burn to his arm when a bucket of hot water splashed during a cleanup in the Mueller & Rnt garage on Christus day evening. The Exemption Board indicated he will miss work several weeks.
The Public Safety Commission brings Lieut. Paul Perigord of the French Army to Minnesota with a lecture tour. He will speak at the Armory in New Ulm on Friday January 4, recounting front line experiences from Marne to Verdun and his service as a front line officer.
A J McGuire of the Minnesota College of Agriculture reports Minnesota dairy farmers earn 7 to 15 dollars more per cow annually by selling cream to cooperative creameries than by shipping to centralized plants. He compares prices paid for butterfat from best and poorest cooperatives, individual creameries, and centralizers from 1915 to 1917, finding average payments for the best cooperatives around 40.9 cents per pound versus 32 or so cents from centralizers, with poorer cooperatives faring better than centralizers.
