Junior Pioneers plan a community event at Turner Hall Park on Sunday August 21 marking the 59th anniversary of the 1862 New Ulm battles. Walther League Rally Invited Guests at Mankato

The Walther League of this city received an invitation to a big rally at Mankato next Sunday with several thousand visitors expected. Immanuel Lutheran Church will host services at 10:80 a.m. led by Rev. Adolph Frey of Jordan. An afternoon program on the Bethany College grounds will feature short addresses by Prof. W. Arndt of Concordia Seminary St. Louis Mo Rev. G. T. Albrecht of St. Peter VP of the Minnesota District and Victor Schroeder of Rapidan. Choirs and bands will participate under Prof. H. Prey of Mankato.

Friends report Bill Muesing will continue to run the Muesing Drug Store in town while Emil Borath Drug Store in Nicollet is acquired. E W Haase will manage Nicollet location, aiming for a new brick building next spring with space for other tenants. Former Sleepy Eye resident Mrs Cyrus W Conrad dies

Barbara Angus Conrad, born January 15, 1842 in Cook County Illinois, died at her Sleepy Eye home on July 21. A former New Ulm resident, she moved to Minnesota in 1868, lived in Dodge County, then Sleepy Eye. Survived by daughter Hattie and two sisters and two brothers. Funeral Saturday at the family home, burial at Home Cemetery.

Tetanus Death After Splinter Injury in Cottonwood

Mrs. Catherine Turbes of Cottonwood township died at Loretto Hospital from tetanus contracted after a wood splinter pierced her right foot a week earlier. She was 32, survived by husband John, three children Irene Roman and Floyd, and her Schirrer relatives. Funeral held at St Johns Catholic church in Searles.

Veteran Engineer Thomas Collins Retires After 47 Years

long-time Chicago and Northwestern Railway engineer Thomas F Collins is placed on the pension list after 47 years in railroading. Colitis, a Winnipeg born veteran who worked from Ontario to Texas and Wisconsin before joining Northwestern in 1881, recounts multiple wrecks, severe injuries including a broken leg and hip, and the era’s safety changes. Supervisors C Coleman and J Boyle praise his loyalty and service, hoping for peace and happiness in retirement. He has lived in New Ulm for 18 years.

Mischievous youths thwart cement block ride at plant

Youngsters riding a cement block car at the Baffert Pile plant damaged blocks when they pushed them off the incline. Foreman nabbed three offenders who confessed and named others. Picnic Draws Thousands to Ramsey Park In Minnesota

A Sunday Knights of Columbus annual picnic at Ramsey State Park Redwood Falls drew about 5000 attendees. About 922 cars entered the park and roughly 6000 people were present, with 500 additional park-goers not counted in attendance. A local auto tour began at the Jacal Armory and led to a procession into Redwood Falls. The program featured speeches by J R Landy Philip Liesch Rev J J Lomek and others culminating in W H Dempsey and Grand Knight Henry Bergmhof remarks. Contests and sports followed with winners in boys and girls races and a rooster rap. Gov J A O Breust appointed council members for Springfield.

Aged Farmer Carl Kempfert Drowns in Cistern Death

Carl Kempfert of Clamants died after entering a cistern to cool himself. The 70 year old had lived with his son Albert since his wife’s death. Albert found him drowned in several feet of water. coroner ruled no foul play and ordered an inquest. Kempfert had two other grown children.

Brown County Fair poised for record first annual event

The Brown County Fair at the Fair Grounds in New Ulm on August 22 23 and 24 headlines a monster program. Cap City Amusement Company provides major attractions including a Merrit wheel and high class tents while an exciting auto polo contest and a possible flying circus promise thrills.
