The jury in Minnesota v Koch returned a not guilty verdict after an informal ballot. The three trial history ended with relief for Dr Geo I Koch and his family while critics questioned justice in the city. Jurors were honored, and spectators celebrated as Dr Koch embraced relatives amid court proceedings and public cheers.
The Lake City Republican denounces a proposed Minnesota National Guard encampment at New Ulm citing unholiness and breweries. The Mankato Free Press defends New Ulm as a fit host, praising Camp Lakeview and the community, and denying brewery influence while noting Colonel Van Duzee’s resignation threat over canteen and site concerns.
The National Guard should hold its annual review where maneuvers have space. Camp Lakeview, bought by Lake City in 1888, served as the best encampment for the state militia that year. After thirty years, if annual encampments occur at Camp Lakeview, the grounds become state property. otherwise they revert to Lake City.
Policeman Jos Tauer arrested Emil Severs Saturday afternoon in the rear of the Strickler building. Witnesses allege excessive violence, including choking until unconscious and double handcuffing before a county jail transfer. The case was dismissed with no grounds found for detention.
The valuable hunting dog Pete, owned by Julius Krause, was killed by a hose cart near the Eckstein corner on North Minnesota Street Tuesday evening July 25 1905. The remains were laid to rest in the dog cemetery near the creamery following a short solemn procession. Pete was in his third year and highly valued by hunters who had offered sums to purchase him, but Krause refused. The report notes Pete as one of the citys best trained pointers and recalls two prior dogs also buried at the same place. A second item tells of Dr Kings New Discovery for coughs and colds praised by Geo A Byler of Cumberland Md with a testimonial author. A promotional note from O M Olsen drug store accompanies the ad.
