Botanist Recovers Dioon Plant After Earthquakes and Tiger Chase
Professor Charles J. Chamberlain of the University of Chicago returns from a Mexico botany expedition with the rare divon or dioon, a plant from the geological period. He survived three earthquakes and a hourlong tiger pursuit, and brings back seeds and a greenish shell covered nut. The divon, unknown until recently, survives only in a primitive Mexican region where locals carve its seeds into whistles and toys.
