103 Ballots Without Result in City Council Control Battle

Personal injury suit pending fuels city council claim
Mrs Eliza Neumann presented a damage claim to the city council demanding 100 for medical attendance 25 for nursing 15 for medicine and 2500 in damages after a February 27 fall that severely injured her. Action was deferred on advice of City Attorney Albert Pfaender. The meeting also heard bids for street sprinkling with Huevelmann accepted at 60 per month plus daily overtime and trucking fees.

Mr and Mrs Henry Engel celebrated their silver wedding as New Ulm Turnverein members and the ladies society arranged a surprise gathering at Turner Hall. Jack Rudolph presented a bouquet, Alice Haeberle decorates, Capt Steinhauser led the ceremony, and a grand silver gift plus elaborate 11 oclock repast followed with speeches singing and dancing.

Tragic Death of Alfred Wellner Under Wagon Wheels
Alfred Wellner ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Fred Wellner of Lafayette township died after being crushed under a two ton wagon while hauling cement for a new house. He fell from the second team and was dragged under the wheels as his father and brothers watched in vain. The boy died within seconds and was buried from the Lutheran church with Rev J Albrecht officiating at Lutheran cemetery.

Aged Men Commit Death by Own Action in Despondency
Two 60-year-old men Gottlieb Schrodt and Martin Remiger ended their lives last week in separate acts. Schrodt shot himself in a fit of despair after news of a brother's drowning. Remiger, temporarily insane, cut his throat with a razor. Schrodt was found by lodger Wm. Bierbaum on Monday. Remiger’s body was later discovered in a gully near Koch's hill. Schrodt left behind a widow and two children. Remiger was unmarried with two brothers and had lived in Brown county for 38 years. Remains were interred after coroner and sheriff investigations. Miss Jennie Hillmer was visiting in town.
