Wellner Farm in Dispute Recalls Historic Murder Case

In Nicollet County, the Wellner farm dispute pits two surviving children against attorney Jos A Eckstein over 245 acres valued at 12 250 dollars. They claim Mrs Tanke profited from the murder of John Wellner and seek recovery of the Lafayette township property once transferred to Eckstein. Hoidale Samson represent the guardians.

Great Catholic Cathedral Corner Stone Parade Planned

Plans for the June 2 corner stone ceremony of the new St. Paul Catholic cathedral advance rapidly. Organizers expect about 25 000 people in the parade drawn from Catholic organizations and church dignitaries with invited clergy possibly from leading nationwide churches. Invitations go to St Josephs Society Knights of Columbus Foresters and ladies societies in New Ulm. The Second Regiment Band will accompany and a special train is being arranged.

Major Vogel Seeks County Tax Board Seat

County Auditor Vogel is a candidate for a seat on the proposed tax commission to share appointment power with the governor and attorney general if the measure passes. Other local items include travel plans, a May public school exhibit, and state road funding debated in the senate. A brutal husband attack leaves Mrs. Reinhart hospitalized. Reinhart, a well-to-do farmer, may face legal action.

Suit filed for loss of arm in Leavenworth sawmill accident

Samuel J. Brown sues Herman Altermatt for 20000 dollars damages over a sawmill accident on Altermatt s Leavenworth township farm. Brown, a former civil engineering student, was employed when a slab dropped, Brown's arm was drawn into a saw and amputated. Attorney W A Funk of Mankato represents Brown.

Bayley Named Contract Surgeon for U S Army

Maj E W Bayley of Sleepy Eye has been appointed as a contract surgeon for the U S Army and will resign as Brown County coroner. A special county board meeting is set to appoint a successor. The post carries lieutenant salary but no commission, a step usually given to longer service. Dr Bayley has resigned from Gen TMolomp despl staff.
