Four more weeks of school remain as Rev. Beebee plans a series of meetings starting Wednesday night. Valentine day was observed, a literary event set for Friday at Mr. Pierson's, and Lincoln's birthday was celebrated with participation from old soldiers. Reports say Mrs. A. C. Hill is improving and Mrs. May is also better. Mrs. Guy Overstreet of Boone County and Mrs. Grant Reeves are mentioned.
Mrs Sim mons announces a masquerade at the Rathbone Sisters venue in the K of P hall on February 22 with prizes for the nicest masked lady and the most comical masked gentleman. Admission is 10 cents. All invited.
Charlie Henry visited Lizton with Charlie Huffman and Lloyd Nelson assisting on Saturday. William Hedge hauled wood to New Ross on Monday and Tuesday. Ada Porter stayed with Miss Onie Hedge Thursday night. Floyd Henry went to Pittsboro Friday and remains in Lizton where he oversees the Big Four office. Eel River township notes arrive late but include G. W. Harrison becoming a township citizen and Miss Belle Browning from Morgan County moving to the township.
Invitations went out for a Saturday Valentine party at Wm. McInires. Ladies sat under sheets at a table with a vacant chair for a partner. Gentlemen selected partners without knowing who they were, exposing a soft dummy head when the sheets were removed.
After seating the guests, ladies removed their sheets and a supper of hard bread, fat meat, onions, ginger soaps and water was served. Each gentleman received a comic valentine and the party departed at a late hour, having enjoyed themselves.
The new Big Four agent at Pittsboro absconded with $138 from Ry. and Express funds after two weeks on the job. The Lizton post was filled by the transfer, with Floyd Henry overseeing Lizton until a permanent replacement is found. A harsh fuel famine hit Boom and Montgomery counties, with gas coal and wood scarce in Lebanon and Crawfordsville, where wood prices spiked to $1 to $6 per load.
