Mearl Heikes of Latimore Township officials has been reappointed as a member of the Tales committee of the State Association for 1963. Heikes has held this post for the past five years and was reappointed by State Association president Dale Cortee.

District leaders for the Red Cross fund drive opening this week in Adams County were announced Monday by C. P. Keefler, chapter chairman. The campaign for 6500 will continue through the month outside the Gettysburg Community Chest area. Readable names include Mrs. Robert Berkheimer Abbotstown, Foster J. Kimball Berwick Twp, Mrs. Paul J. Lerew East Berlin, Mrs. Charles F. Dietzel Lattimore Twp, Mrs. Robert Burkee McSherrystown, Mrs. Atlee F. Robert Pleasant Twp, Henry J. Stock New Oxford, Mrs. J. Francis Yake Tyrone Twp, Mrs. Clair Hikes York Springs, and Rev. Amos D. Meyers.
Chapter chairman C P Keefer announced a Red Cross fund drive will start Thursday in Adams County with a large canvassing team. The goal is 6500 dollars, covering all areas outside Gettysburg Community Chest. New solicitors include Berwick Two and East Berlin Borough members, McSherrystown and New Oxford volunteers, Oxford Two, Tyrone Two, and additional names listed for various townships and boroughs.
The Adams County Association or Fire Chiefs will meet this evening at eight o'clock at Aspers. Secretary Eugene Murren has an agenda item prepared for the session.
Miss Judy Ann Hoffman daughter of Mr and Mrs Chester Hoffman and Miss Rebecca J Brendle daughter of Mr and Mrs R J Brendle both of New Oxford were named to membership in Kappa Mu Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority based on scholarship leadership and character. The duo among 15 honorees attended a reception at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown on February 27. Both are New Oxford High School graduates and attended Maryland Medical Secretarial School in Hagerstown.
Free chest x rays today in New Oxford for residents over five. H Earl Pitzer, Republican, of Aspers, is appointed assistant director of highway safety for the state. The move places him in the Adams County rotation of the chest x ray program run by the Scranton Tuberculosis Society and Christmas Seal campaign. Pitzer previously headed the highway safety bureau under Gov. John S. Fine. Leona Timney, 67, New Oxford, was admitted to York Hospital after a car struck a utility pole, suffering a broken leg and facial injuries when a tire failed while passing east of Hellam. State police noted the crash occurred at 10:30 am Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. McMaster of Abbottstown celebrated 25 years of marriage with a Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on February 26, 1938, and have eight children.
Herbert W. Miller, 51, of Biglerville R 1 Menallen Two, announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for prothonotary. He has held the post since 1956. A Mt Joy Two native, Miller spent 22 years in Menallen Two, taught at several high schools, and served one year as farm labor coordinator for the State Extension Service. He is active in fruitgrowers groups and Farm Bureau, and married to Ruth Myers with three children.
Dr Howard T. Brinton, Congo missionary and Central Pennsylvania Conference member, will speak at New Oxford Methodist Church on Thursday March 14 at 7 30 p m. Known for mediating Congo conflicts and addressing congressional and state department officials, he is a respected Christian leader. The community is invited to attend.
The 1ith Antiques Show sponsored by the Men and Ladies of Salem Sunday School will run March 13 14 15 daily from 1 to 10 p m at the Dullsburg Memorial Building. Antique collectors from Pennsylvania and several other states travel to see and buy from top dealers. The show is famed for a premier antiques display and the ladies will offer home cooked lunches and dinners.
Adams County Society for Crippled Children and Adults seeks support for its Easter Seals appeal. The Warner Hospital center marks its first anniversary with 560 treatments given this year through infra red diathermy ultrasound whirlpool and other therapies. The group spent over 3300 on care including shoes braces home care equipment x rays and wheelchairs.
The Susquehanna University Symphonic Band 73 players will give a concert at Bermudian Springs High School Monday March 1 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. It is part of an 11 concert five day tour visiting 10 Pennsylvania and New Jersey communities under director James B Steffy with Dr James M Stolcic assisting.
The New Oxford Community World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday at 7 30 pm in the First Lutheran Church. It was postponed from last Friday because of bad weather.

New Oxford Borough Council approves a 1963 budget of 110382 with no tax rate increase, discusses curbing plans for South Peters and South Water streets, water contamination findings, and anticipated borrowing for sewer water system payments.
Edwin Motter announces his bid for the Republican nomination for county commissioner in the May primary. a Gardners merchant and former Metropolitan Edison lineman, he has led Motter's general store 17 years and held leadership on the Community Pure Food Stores board. he is 50, married to Ruth Sheely, with two sons, and active in Christ Lutheran Church Aspers, Upper Adams Lions, and local fire companies.
Judy Gay Detter daughter of Mr and Mrs Lorne Detter is noted. Dov er R J of Harmony Grove placed second in an International Bible Contest by the International Church of the Four Square Gospel. Local residents visit relatives on W King Street. Merle C Hoffman of York formerly East Berlin was treated for a scalp wound after a car crash. David Anderman resumes studies at Bermudian Springs High School after illness.
Dr D L Beegle of Emmitsburg and his son Dr John D L Beegle have opened chiropractic offices at 255 Baltimore St Gettysburg, while retaining their Emmitsburg practice. The elder Beegle previously practiced in Gettysburg and moved years ago. Mrs Luella Lerew of East Berlin is named notary public by the secretary of the commonwealth. Mothers to be urged to select spring and Easter wardrobe at Store Shop Han.
The Adams County Fire Police Association will meet at the Greenmount fire hall next Monday evening at 8 o'clock, announced by Ft.Thomas Adams.
