Red Cross fund drive opens with Adams County leaders named

District leaders for the Red Cross fund drive opening this week in Adams County were announced Monday by C. P. Keefler, chapter chairman. The campaign for 6500 will continue through the month outside the Gettysburg Community Chest area. Readable names include Mrs. Robert Berkheimer Abbotstown, Foster J. Solicitors To Open Red Cross Drive in Adams County

Chapter chairman C P Keefer announced a Red Cross fund drive will start Thursday in Adams County with a large canvassing team. The goal is 6500 dollars, covering all areas outside Gettysburg Community Chest. New solicitors include Berwick Two and East Berlin Borough members, McSherrystown and New Oxford volunteers, Oxford Two, Tyrone Two, and additional names listed for various townships and boroughs.

New Oxford Students Chosen for Alpha Iota Sorority

Miss Judy Ann Hoffman daughter of Mr and Mrs Chester Hoffman and Miss Rebecca J Brendle daughter of Mr and Mrs R J Brendle both of New Oxford were named to membership in Kappa Mu Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority based on scholarship leadership and character. The duo among 15 honorees attended a reception at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown on February 27. Both are New Oxford High School graduates and attended Maryland Medical Secretarial School in Hagerstown.

Pitzer Named To State Post

Free chest x rays today in New Oxford for residents over five. H Earl Pitzer, Republican, of Aspers, is appointed assistant director of highway safety for the state. The move places him in the Adams County rotation of the chest x ray program run by the Scranton Tuberculosis Society and Christmas Seal campaign. Pitzer previously headed the highway safety bureau under Gov. John S. Fine. Leona Timney, 67, New Oxford, was admitted to York Hospital after a car struck a utility pole, suffering a broken leg and facial injuries when a tire failed while passing east of Hellam. State police noted the crash occurred at 10:30 am Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. McMaster of Abbottstown celebrated 25 years of marriage with a Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on February 26, 1938, and have eight children.

Prothonotary To Seek Re-election in Adams County

Herbert W. Miller, 51, of Biglerville R 1 Menallen Two, announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for prothonotary. He has held the post since 1956. A Mt Joy Two native, Miller spent 22 years in Menallen Two, taught at several high schools, and served one year as farm labor coordinator for the State Extension Service. He is active in fruitgrowers groups and Farm Bureau, and married to Ruth Myers with three children.

Easter Seal Sales Open Peters County Drives Campaign

Adams County Society for Crippled Children and Adults seeks support for its Easter Seals appeal. The Warner Hospital center marks its first anniversary with 560 treatments given this year through infra red diathermy ultrasound whirlpool and other therapies. The group spent over 3300 on care including shoes braces home care equipment x rays and wheelchairs.
