Sturms Loses Appeal For New Trial On Assault Charges

H A Sturms of New Oxford R C had a new trial motion denied by the Adams County Court in a ruling on resisting arrest and assault and battery against New Oxford Police Chief Walter Bemniller. The court ordered the district attorney to bring Sturms for sentencing on the original charges after he was found guilty of resisting arrest assaulting an officer and aggravated assault and battery. He was acquitted of driving while under the influence at the same term.

Conewago Joint Teachers Committee elected three new teachers at East Berlin High School with several positions still open. Carvin C. Smith of York Springs will teach junior high mathematics. a Gettysburg College honors graduate and U.S. Army Reserve officer, he returns from overseas duty and previously taught in Korea. He replaces Enos Eberly who moved to a Red Lion bank.

Adams County Approves Concrete Bridges Contract

The Adams County commissioners signed a contract with Stewart and March Inc York for construction of two concrete bridges on Stone Jug road replacing two wooden covered bridges. Stewart and March were the low bidders when bids opened weeks ago. A copy of county assessment figures was signed and sent to the state.

Paradise Two York County plans to leave the Conewago Joint School System at least for elementary grades and East Berlin seeks to join Lower Adams Jointure. James C Herman Dies at 72 in New Oxford

James C. Herman 72 died at his New Oxford home after illness dating back to December and bedrest since March. A tinsmith by trade, he retired to work three years for the state in Harrisburg. Survived by two sons, a daughter, two brothers, a sister and two grandchildren. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 pm at Fred F. Feiser Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. George E. Carpenter Robert Frankenfield Dies After Heart Attack

Robert Dewitt Frankenfield aged 65 of New Oxford Route 2 died Tuesday night at 9 20 from a heart attack. Born in Lasémne County he was a carpenter by trade and had lived in the area for ten years after moving from Cottage City Maryland. He belonged to the Harrisburg local of the Carpenters Union.
