Plan Memorial To Connect Shrines

A movement led by Congressman Harry L. Haines seeks federal backing to build a 200 foot wide memorial boulevard from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington to Gettysburg. The plan envisions a direct Mary land corridor via Chevy Chase Frederick and Taneytown road, reducing distance from 177 miles to about 67, and linking two Lincoln memorials as a national traffic magnet. The Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce sponsors the effort with support from multiple congressmen.
