J Walter Kime 71 year old night watchman at the Rice Trew and Rice plant in Biglerville was beaten and robbed of $90 by three unidentified men between 8:15 and 8:30 Friday night. He suffered a fractured jaw and concussion, and was cared for at Warmer hospital where his condition was listed as good as could be expected.
The New Oxford Fire company Ladies' Auxiliary held a Christmas party after their December meeting with twenty members present and one new member Mrs. W Pinkerton. Officers elected for 1949 are Pres Mrs Hillen Rife vice pres Mrs Clair Locken bill sec Mrs Rudolph Crouse and treas Mrs Beulah Millar. The next meeting is Thursday evening January 20.
Gettysburg couple Mr and Mrs Cyrus J Keefer announce the engagement of their daughter Treva Mae to William Albert Weikert Jr of New Oxford Berlin avenue They note Treva is a 1947 Gettysburg High School graduate and works at Peace Light Inn Sheik Weikert attended New Oxford High School served 18 months in the Navy including time in the Pacific and now works at West End Garage No wedding date is set.
Woodrow Hubler of Pine Grove was apprehended by a state patrolman for improper passing on December 17 and given a ten day notice. Latrobe’s Mike Salko was stopped for failing to keep right on December 26 and received a ten day notice.
Seven year old Shirley Lochbaum lost her right eye after a spring on a screen door snapped while she helped her father bring in a Christmas tree. Dr Walter of Mountain Get tysburg said the eye was badly injured and would have to be removed. She was taken to Harrisburg for surgery.

New Oxford High fell 37 33 as Scotland edged the hosts with 40 seconds left after a 33 33 deadlock. Coach Fleagle’s squad led 16 15 at halftime before a late foul and score decided the game. Scotland reserves won 27 19. John F. Myers of Gettysburg observed his 85th birthday. Diamonds ad note: have old diamond set into new rings by Thomas H. Smith.
Three Adams county men were reported Tuesday at the Harrisburg Army and Air Force recruiting station for induction into the armed forces. If accepted, they will lift the county total sent through the local draft board to five. Names will not be released until acceptance is confirmed. The county draft board expects 15 men for January. The army and air force are calling for more women as well with re enlistment options for veterans discharged from the WAC or WAF, available before January 4, 1949. Recruiters urge eligible women to apply at Gettysburg Post Office building station openings for forms and information.
Several residents from Hanover Gettysburg and New Oxford were cited or fined for illegal parking in December. Names include Donald Staub Harold Wentz G W Orndorff Cyrus Keefer F M Ogburn C F Ulrich and Adolphus A Walker with dates of apprehension or payment of fines noted.
Two men were slightly injured Thursday night in a collision of two autos at the underpass at Rosegarden on the Gettysburg Harrisburg pike. Bernard L. Funk of McSherrystown drove toward Dillsburg and struck the underpass abutment, then glanced into Carl K. Krausse of Kensington Maryland’s car. Krausse suffered a knee injury and Leo C. Hemler, a passenger in the Funk auto, had a forehead laceration. both were treated on the scene.
Earplays of Sheets Brothers and guests were entertained Wednesday at a turkey banquet in the Elks ballroom, Hanover, with the hall attractively decorated. Christmas bonuses and gifts were distributed. thirty people attended dinner and danced. New Year’s Day and Sunday openings noted for Jim’s Restaurant.

A Christmas dinner at the West York Inn honored Spencer I. Myers, formerly of New Oxford. Hosts Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shank oversaw decorations and music by a brass quartet and Shultz family performers. Several Myers relatives from York, York Springs, and State College attended. illness kept some absent.

All services start at 7 30 p m.
