Sesqui Centennial Committee Plans Thursday Meeting

Adams County Sesqui Centennial Committee holds its second meeting at the courthouse Thursday at 8 PM. The planning sub committee, led by Dr. Fortenbaugh and the Revs Yeager Brumbach, will present plans for the January 1950 anniversary and the broader centennial program.

Philadelphia man guilty on assault count

John J. Dalton Jr of Philadelphia was found guilty by an Adams county jury of aggravated assault and battery for cutting William S. Scott of Fairfield with a knife during a Memorial Day confrontation. Dalton claimed self defense after Scott allegedly kicked him, and the verdict was returned at 11 10 this morning.

Convicted Countian Faces 2 More Counts

Lewis Metz of Orrtanna pled guilty to two counts after a July 9 incident in which a shotgun was fired at Clyde Sloat’s home. State police charged Metz with driving without plates and without a license. He received $10 fines on each count and one day in jail for default.

Adams County Public Assistance Board names Grace Myers senior typist

Grace E. Myers of Gettysburg was appointed senior typist at the Adams County Public Assistance board meeting in August with J. D. Miller presiding. Board members present were William V. Sneeringer Stuart M. Danner the Rev. A W Geigley and Harold H. Renning. Mrs Donald Myers reported the current case load including 459 old age 95 blind pension and aid to dependent child cases.

The board will meet on September 20. Willam W. Menchey sold property in Berwick township to Ray 8S and Elmira M. Emlet for 2850.96. Miss Gloria Kiunk of Get tysburg R.5 received a $10 check from All-American Aviation Pittsburgh for finding and returning a mail pouch dropped July 13 seven miles away.
