A 46 acre Mt. Pleasant farm near Brush Run sold for 2700 dollars and repairs to Center Square flagpole finished.

P C Fleshman of near New Oxford and his sister Mother Rita after 48 years meet at Ursuline convent in St Ignatius Montana. They traveled 7300 miles with P C’s wife and Felix Feezer visiting relatives from Ohio to Minnesota to Washington including Yellowstone Park. Frank Fleshman plans western trip to Montana soon.
Williams Grove Park and Speedway will host an AAA big car race this Sunday on the half mile dirt oval Promoter Roy Richwine presents the event with a star field including Indianapolis 500 drivers competing for 2000 in prize money The postponed July 30 date is rescheduled and rain checks will be honored at all Speedway events
W H Plank a 25 from New Oxford R 1 and Mrs Litha F Spicer 30 of Harlan Kentucky now at 239 West Lincoln Gettysburg collided Friday about 530 PM on a township road north of New Chester approaching a one lane bridge. Left fronts damaged about 35 each with no injuries. Officer K Yemzow investigated for the Gettysburg state motor police but filed no charges.
About 300 attendees join the Staub reunion as officers are elected including Louis Moore president Michael Staub vice president John A Robinson secretary Mrs Chester Gravatt treasurer and Ryland Robinson historian all from New Oxford Music by Guy Staub's Hill Billies The next event is set for August 11 at the same location.
Charles Kennedy of New Oxford will receive a bachelor’s degree as a post graduate convocation at Shippensburg State Teachers’ College on Friday. Dr. Albert Lind Say Rowland, the college president, will present the diplomas.
An N. O. H. 5 dedication event features dancing and card games on August 25 at 9:00 p.m. Community members are invited to attend the social occasion and celebrate the newly dedicated hall.

A Homecoming and Dedication of the New Oxford High School annex starts August 22 with a full program including band performances and a dedication address. A carnival and homecoming run Wednesday and Thursday with suppers and music, culminating in a public dance Friday night.

Hanover shoppers watched as Dick Anthony the famed big game hunter aimed a rifle at a floor hole after a mouse ran across Doc Walter's sporting goods shop. Anthony jumped onto a counter to direct the improvised hunt but then lowered the unloaded weapon and the store resumed normal business.
Mrs. J W Rodgers of Miami Beach Fla was arrested for speeding at 60 mph on August 15 and paid 10 dollars plus costs. Bennett M Siegel of Pittsburgh and Sol Hutchison of Philadelphia paid 10 dollar fines and costs before Justice C Straley. Siegel faced 62 mph speeding and Hutchison was charged with passing another car at an intersection in New Oxford on a Wednesday.
The New Oxford Social and Athletic Club will relocate to the John S. Weaver estate on Hanover Street, leasing the property for a year after Crist Glass recently purchased it. Mr Rohrbaugh of York bought the club’s current Lincolnway West property from a Gettysburg bank and plans extensive improvements and a modern home owned theatre opening by October.
William L. Eckenrode aged 66 died Saturday at Hanover Hospital from acute myocarditis. Retired sexton of St Mary’s Catholic Church New Oxford, he left a wife Bertha Martin two children Grace Wolford and Ray Eckenrode three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Survived by sisters Agnes Gruninger Irene Eckenrode Margaret Ostendorf and brothers John C Eckenrode and others of York. Funeral held in St Mary’s Catholic Church New Oxford with Rev Robert D Hartnett officiating burial in St Mary’s Cemetery New Oxford.

The New Oxford High School band will perform at multiple venues this season beginning August 19 in North York for Mt Wolf and at Pine Grove for Kornbay reunion in the evening. Additional dates include August 26 Hampton Fire Co and August 27 Forest Park followed by September 2 Littlestown Fire Co September 9 Sons of Veterans picnic and September 16 New Oxford Fire Co parade at McSherrystown.

Miss Arlene Staub daughter of Mrs Anna Staub McSherrystown and Joseph Miller son of Mr and Mrs Nathaniel Miller New Oxford were married at a nuptial mass in St Marys church McSherrystown. The Very Rev Patrick I McGee officiated.

Eva Jensen of East Rockaway New York was cited in Oxford township on August 15 for 65 mph and paid 10 dollars plus costs. Ralph Harrah of Akron Ohio was cited in Oxford township on August 15 for 66 mph and paid 10 dollars plus costs.
Ninth grade pupils at New Oxford High School are to enroll Friday morning between 9 and 11 o clock. Students should bring the county superintendent certificate to prevent delays in starting the first day’s program.
