New Oxford Defeats McSherrystown Club

New Oxford defeated McSherrystown twice at New Oxford 9 3 on Saturday and 2 0 at McSherrystown on Sunday. Keffer left the mound early Saturday as Bevenour held four hits. Groft and Skinny Bevenour pitched Sunday in a pitchers battle. Johnny McCadden starred for New Oxford as crowds gathered at the Old Mill Park for league games against Biglerville and Centennial. Prof Harold Landis will move into the Lincoln Way west residence August 1 as he becomes principal of New Oxford public schools.

Colgan Announces Campaign for Adams Co Associate Judge

IF X Colgan, a town cigarbox maker from Colgan McSherry, Saturday announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for associate judge of Adams county. He previously came within 138 votes of election six years ago, and his nominating papers were filed with Harrisburg’s elections bureau Monday, the final filing day for candidates. Colgan, born in Oxford township and longtime Adams resident, has been active in party affairs and was considered for immigration commissioner in Philadelphia. The immigration post was restructured, creating a district director role. Colgan currently works with the Federal Home Loan Corporation in Harrisburg and previously served as sealer of weights and measures in Adams. He is the fourth Democrat to announce for the seat.

Republicans Plan Picnic at Arendtsville Union Park

A county wide Republican picnic is planned for Thursday August 17 at Arendtsville Union Park. Charles W. Carroll of Philadelphia will be principal speaker and Mrs Worthington Scranton may speak. Events include a one act play baseball horseshoes bingo cards and croquet with music from a band and invitations to York Dauphin and Carroll counties Republicans.

Swope Family Reunion Unites East and West Groups

The Swope family reunion will be held Saturday August 12 at Rosalind park on the Gettysburg battlefield. East and West groups join this year with meals on the grounds and shelter. Adams County Board Forms Wheat Production Group

Six directors from Adams county were chosen at sectional meetings to administer federal crop plan provisions. They elected Shyder as president Miller as vice president Heiges as secretary, and will establish a county headquarters at the courthouse. One hundred thirty eight wheat growers attended six meetings to outline the crop production plan.

Three Lane Road Planned From New Oxford To Abbottstown

The Pennsylvania Department of Highways will build a three lane highway between New Oxford and Abbottstown this year. Secretary Samuel B. Lewis announced at Harrisburg during a conference with Governor Pinchot and Adame County residents. The Lincoln highway will be relocated north of Cross Keys to remove dangerous curves and improve sight lines at the Carlisle pike crossing. Concrete shoulders may be added and the roadway will veer northward near the Higinbotham farm before rejoining the existing route, easing traffic between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Lewis discussed the plan with Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce president Dr J McCrea Dickson State Senator John Rice and C A Bixler.

New Oxford Carrier retraces 24300 mile career

Maurice G. Colestock, rural mail carrier on Route 3 from New Oxford, retired July 1 after 30 years of service. His route stayed near 27 miles despite periodic area changes, with early years by horse or sleigh and later by auto. He served under postmasters Emmert, Warner, and Miller, thanking patrons for support.

Rev Charles Altland Injured As Mower Arm Amputated

The Rev. Charles Altland a 62 year old Brethren minister from Washington township York county was injured Tuesday at 9 30 am when horses pulling a mower ran away he fell onto the cutter arm severing his right arm near the shoulder He was taken to Hanover Hospital in fair condition Dr Allen W Kelle of East Berlin and Dr George Finney of Baltimore performed the amputation while the patient was under care at Hanover Hospital

Dog Law Violations Filed Against Houck and Small

Informations charging Carvin Houck and John Small of New Oxford R. 1 with harboring unlicensed dogs were filed before Justice Neil W. Gibson by T. B.
