The open season on doves starts Wednesday with 25 birds per hunter allowed. Federal and state regulations warn against shooting before sunrise or after sunset and outline restricted species, weapon limits, and transfer rules for migratory birds.
In Santa Fe, the court house crowd won precincts 3 and 4 to gain 18 delegates each, split precinct 18, and carried precinct 17 with eight delegates. The city lead suggests a county convention majority for the court house faction and likely renomination of incumbent county officers and an instructed delegation for Ex Senator Catron for supreme court justice. The county convention convenes at the court house at ten tomorrow morning, September 4.
Nestor Montoya of Albuquerque chaired the publican county convention and received authority to proceed. The state convention opens in Albuquerque with festivities planned September 7 in the big hall, and a committee of local members chaired by Montoya will oversee arrangements.
The Democratic State Central Committee will keep its headquarters in Santa Fe due to it hosting party leader Arthur Seligman. Secretary Byron C. Beall and speaker bureau head John B. McManus, away for two years, have arrived and set up temporary residences for the convention.
Announcement that the contract for the new hotel in Santa Fe will be awarded on September 15. The hotel, funded by local boosters, will be built on the old Fonda site opposite the plaza corner near the new federal building.

Dr W J Pickrell president of Spaulding Dome Oil reports a large oil well pipe from Los Angeles en route to Fort Sumner. DeGraftenried well by National Exploration Co advances with oil at 186 feet and water at 160 feet. An order for 100 tons of coal is placed for immediate delivery in Buchanan Fort Sumner.
Donana Ana shipments from the Mesilla Valley slow as the movement turns toward a 10 percent excess in cars. Pears dominate markets with packing under way, new Farm Bureau Marketing Association forming with 100000 capital to cut overhead and secure marketing for valley products. El Paso officer Ken Jane Hunt, shot in pursuit of duty Aug 11, remains in serious condition.
A fragmented report describes potato and wheat fields near Anthone and a 49 acre Paseo ranch sale to Cap W. Wittlame. It mentions a 10 acre field of TH Poole attracting attention and a new wheat variety from Mr Zastro. Four feet high plants and heavy rains last Wednesday are noted.

In Columbus a 68 year old civil war pensioner James Saunders was shot twice and killed at Mary Henn's home after being warned to stay away. The coroner's jury concluded Saunders was killed by Mrs Henn in self defense with no recommendation. Mrs Henn was arrested and held for preliminary hearing.
A telegram to Santa Fe authorities halted paving on Railroad Avenue. Local figures led by CN Cotton Gregory Page and W H Morris pressed for action. the reply denied any sanction for moving the project. Further notes describe ensuing meetings and minor injuries reported during related events.
