Charges against Bass dismissed in New Mexico case

District Judge James Musgrove dismissed all charges against former McKinley County Sheriff Harold Bass after ruling the grand jury indictment for conspiracy and marijuana distribution was improperly obtained. The ruling cited missing testimony from a Valencia County grand jury, potential involvement of co-defendants, and concerns over Delgado's prior federal testimony. Marsh and Delgado face separate trials in August.

In a five year span Shirley Watchman, a Navajo speaking public health nurse with GIME, helps a neglected Navajo boy become a healthy student at a boarding school. She balances social work with nursing across a 25,000 square mile reservation from Lupton to Navajo, AZ, emphasizing preventive care, child protection, plague surveillance, and immunizations with 95 percent pre school coverage.

CAP commander hails search-and-rescue role

Gallup welcomes new Civil Air Patrol commander Ed Helmick who says search and rescue is CAP’s main duty alongside aerospace education and cadet programs. CAP, an Air Force auxiliary, operates with local squadrons in Farmington and Gallup, trains radio and ground crews, and funds some missions. Helmick invites public tonight at Senator Clarke Field to learn CAP functions and contact 722-4086.

CAC hears requests on 41 area projects

Santa Fe based CAC heard 41 applications for public works grants in northwestern New Mexico, with McCollum saying Gallup, McKinley County, and Bluewater seek funding for 10 projects. The council will decide later this year which proposals receive severance tax bond funds totaling 10 million, as 35 other statewide applications remain pending.
