A city event in Gallup NM aims to celebrate the Fourth of July with a fireworks display at the near site actions area. Officials from NM602 and local agencies coordinate the celebration for residents and visitors.

Two travelers headed northbound on Indian Route 12 swerved to miss a dead animal early June 6 near the turmoil of St. Michaels housing in Window Rock. A body recovered on the road, later identified as KC James, 22, of Fort Defiance, transported to Tse hootsoi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Autopsy and cause of death pending investigation.
A Gallup woman admitted involvement in a Zecca residence burglary on April 23 and received three years of supervised probation. Four male accomplices were named in the plea, with other charges dismissed under a plea agreement. Judge Louis DePauli deferred any prison term.
In a remote Navajo Reservation community, Pifion Accelerated Middle School students earned top honors in two competitions. Cameron Badoni won an international prize in the Radiant Peace Foundation Art Competition, with Caitlyn Begay and Tyron Spencer receiving honorable mentions, while Catarina Chase won the Arizona state prize in the Fight the Bite poster contest. The awards come as the school declares its first art program in four to five years, led by new teacher Leah Elder. Badoni’s winning piece now hangs in the Radiant Peace Art Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
