Two men were jailed on vehicular homicide charges in connection with the fatal three vehicle crash about 11 miles south of Gallup. Merrill, a former McKinley County sheriff, died at the scene after his pickup was struck when a third car attempting to pass Thompson on the right shoulder collided with it. Thompson survived with minor injuries. A second man was arrested as the investigation identified a third vehicle that fled the scene and was later found abandoned on Bread Springs Road. Merrill, who served as sheriff 1967 to 1970, was remembered amid funeral proceedings today.
Navajo Communications Company craft workers, members of the Communications Workers of America, announce a strike starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday with 165 craft employees and 29 managers facing service concerns. They cite wage parity, apprenticeship, grievance procedure, and training as core demands while management says service will continue and cites tribal policy.

Police report no arrests after a Gallup woman was knifed in her home and three others were assaulted. Ramona Vinson, 20, was treated for two lacerations, while Cindy Armijo, 14, and two others were also attacked. Officers spoke with the group at McKinley General Hospital and the suspect, intoxicated, fled the scene. The four victims were to talk with detectives. no charges filed yet.

Navajo Police found a 9 year old boy missing for about 24 hours near Berlin Lake west of the Chuska M area. He was hiking with family when he disappeared. He suffered no injuries and was returned home around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Shiprock and other agencies assisted in the search.
