The Navajo Area Indian Health Service confirms 14 salmonella cases across the Navajo Reservation in northwestern New Mexico. Dr. Ines Vigil, one of two epidemiologists with THS, notes spread across multiple communities.
The New Mexico Department of Health says three tomato types red Roma red round and red plum are affected with a salmonella St Paul link. Officials report at least two cases diagnosed in Cibola General Hospital ER and identify tomatoes as the outbreak source while awaiting further tests.
WINDOW ROCK Navajo President Joe Shirley Jr. promotes reducing the Navajo Nation Council to 24 delegates but Speaker Lawrence T Morgan questions if size alone will fix governing failures. The current Thoreau landfill cell should last 12 years but a new cell will be ready in 6 to 10 months. each cell costs about 500000 and recycling could stretch a cell’s life by 12 years.

The Thompson family eight members hope to move in by summer end, depending on volunteer help and school start timing.
