McKinley County seeks 341000 in federal revenue sharing

McKinley County commissioners approved a reduced 341000 federal revenue sharing package to fund equipment vehicles and services for county departments fire districts and public agencies with an anticipated 1981 82 total availability of about 947000 including prior year leftovers and future promises. They trimmed 687000 requests cutting bus and other items and kept sheriff road and social services needs while rejecting Cathedral Elementary transportation funds for a second year.

Chinese ambassador visits Navajo Nation during Wind Baron tour

Chai Zemin, PRC ambassador to the United States, toured Wind Baron windmill test sites on the Navajo Nation and in Phoenix. He met tribal officials at Window Rock, observed Navajo weaving and corn grinding at the Harvey family homestead, and discussed a growing cultural and technical exchange between the Navajo people and China.

Warrant issued for shooting suspect in Gallup

A warrant was issued for 47 year old Closio Lopez in connection with a Tuesday shooting that wounded Paul Sandoval and Lucy Martinez at 308 E Wilson Avenue. Sandoval suffered arm and waist injuries and was treated at McKinley General Hospital. Martinez was struck on the head and also shot at. Police seek Lopez for attempted murder aggravated battery and burglary.

Plains Electric Genera tion and Transmission Cooperative Inc. will build a single 230 KV transmission line from the Prewitt plant to PNM's Ambrosia Lake grid, instead of two 115 KV lines. The change cuts costs about 15 percent and speeds interconnection with the Escalante Generation Station, with construction set for summer 1982.
