Eastern Navajo panel to delay Nose Rock water report

The Eastern Navajo Land Commission will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Crownpoint without the final Nose Rock uranium mine water quality report. Delays prompted by unclear data from government agencies and Phillips Laboratory sampling leave Navajo livestock concerns unresolved as EPA and BIA data transfer remains uncertain.

Gallup council trims city budget to surplus 39201

Gallup City Council, after two weeks of nightly talks, rewrote the budget reducing a $661,329 deficit to a $39,201 surplus. The plan includes a sliding scale 9.1 to 10.56 percent raise, with city paying 60 percent of insurance costs, and potential relief if insurance rates rise.

Old Fashioned Fourth planned for Centennial year

Gallup Centennial Committee met at Martin Link's home to map an enhanced Old Fashioned Fourth of July on July 4. The event will feature booths for civic groups at 25 dollars, a 10 000 meter run called the Firecracker Run, clowns a Kiddie Carnival and a 9 p.m. fireworks show with a pageant honoring local cultural groups.

Gallup school board approves $1 million bond sale

Gallup McKinley County School Board approves a $1 million bond issue to fund a new middle school in Gallup and related renovations. Banks Western Bank First Interstate Bank and Merchants and are to buy the issue at 8 percent, under the state rate cap, with proceeds also aiding expansion of a second middle school and district construction across the area.
