Bicentennial visit preacher to Zeltenreich church

Prof. William Toth of Franklin and Marshall College will speak at Zeltenreich Church on June 22 at 7 16 p m. in a ceremony honoring the 1747 visit of Rev. Michael Schlatter, who helped organize German speaking congregations into a Synod. The Lancaster Synod Consistorial Pilgrimage will mark the occasion with this event.

Liberty Fire Company Marks 50th Anniversary

The Liberty Fire Company of New Holland Borough celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with a Sunday program at Community Hall. Bailey, assistant county schools superintendent, spoke and Rev. C G Bachman presented the hive of the company once known as the New Holland Hook and Ladder Company fifty years ago. County attendees from several nearby companies joined the event and the New Holland Victory Band provided music.

Lancaster Man Dies of Cerebral Hemorrhage

Christian Hurter seventy three died at 8 30 a m Monday in Lancaster County Hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage. He lived with E H Eshleman in Kinzer and is survived by a Germany based brother Frederick and a sister Mrs Lena Yecker of 806 Filbert Street Lancaster. Funeral services were held at Sheetz Home for Funerals on North Duke Street at Lemon Lancaster and burial followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Young Men's Business League of New Holland held its regular meeting on June 17 at the Lutheran Parish House to observe 100 percent night. Tragedy in Blue Ball Claims Richard Eaby on Route 23

Richard William Eaby seventeen of Blue Ball was killed instantly when his motor bike was struck by a cattle truck on Route 23 East New Holland while enroute to work. Willis G. Shirk of Blue Ball swerved to avoid him but the right rear wheel passed over the youth. Eaby, a New Holland High School graduate, excelled in mathematics served as class treasurer and was active in track soccer basketball and Glee Club. He planned engineering studies at Carnegie Tech and worked for New Holland Machine Company. Funeral services were held at Esbenshade Funeral Home and interment followed at Bridgeville Evangelical Cemetery.

The County Superintendent held exams in New Holland with fourteen applicants and eleven earning teaching certificates. The Clarion printed the entire question list, noting one English literature question. The first New Holland Garbers festival was held at the Stauffer Ding Store area with proceeds of 118.01 dollars. A special Eagle Hotel lunch featured snapper soup and oyster pies as prices from fifty years ago are recalled.
