Borough Council on Monday accepted the deed for Kutz avenue from New Holland Real Estate Company. The street will be incorporated later with Locust and State streets. The council authorized a new water pump and safety device for the Miller tract well, and an aerator to meet state requirements and improve water quality.
Fire chief F M Stauffer of the Blue Ball Fire Company thanks neighbors who notified the firemen Monday about a small blaze at the rear lot of Daniel Hoover's feed mill. He says prompt action prevented a major fire.
The Robinson department store staff approved management plans to keep the store open on Wednesdays during summer. Half the employees will work while the other half take vacations during those periods.
The Children's Day exercises at Ranck's United Brethren Sunday School will take place Sunday evening June 18 at 7:80 ST. A program of music recitations exercises and a pageant titled Ways of Pleasantness will be presented.
Mr and Mrs Ivan P Lowry announce the birth of twins a boy and a girl Gene Allen and Joan Gertrude at Zhoote on Saturday at 8:50 and 9 a m in the borough.
Ralph B. Mentzer Harold H Stauffer and Dorothy Stauffer from New Holland earned degrees this year. Dr Stauffer received an M D from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine after study at Albright Franklin and Marshall and Ursinus College. Dorothy Stauffer earned a B A from Ursinus College and Ralph Mentzer earned an M B from State College.
At Glenolden Delaware County the Tri County Council of Legion Auxiliaries dissolved as Delaware County units withdrew to form a separate council. Mrs Charles A Mentzer of Lancaster Chester counties was chosen president of the new Bi County Council to be installed September 16 in Ephrata. Attending from nearby were Mrs Wayne B Ranck Mrs Amos R Zuck and others.
The Lea County teachers committee announced appointments for the next term including John Rodgers, Samuel Shirk, A G Seyfert, M G Weaver, Samuel Martin, Miss Hannie Kersey, M C Cooper, Miss Annie Richmond, BE G Reist, John N Mentzer, C B Cake, William M Taggart, and M C Weiler. The United Brethren church hosted a crowded Children's Day service.
The King's Daughters met at Mrs. John Whitmer's home and discussed reports from visiting committees. A benefit movie Angels Hospital featuring Jane Withers is planned for July with date to be announced.
George D. May of Lancaster will be the guest speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Young Democratic Club of New Holland on Monday June 14 at 8 p.m. in the American Legion Home. Carl Stoeckl, president of the club, will be in charge of the meeting.
A Caernarvon Township farmer reports repeated land trespass by fishermen and picnickers damaging hay and crops. Local planists Hen Gehman and Hen Braas promote a potato-harvesting solution while noting licensing costs. The farmers urge courtesy and land respect to prevent further losses.
The United Brethren Sunday school plans a Children’s Day program at 10 a.m. with worship led by Leon Richwine and a full slate of recitations, solos, baptisms, and hymns performed by various youth groups and teachers.
Mrs Rebecca King wife of Abraham King of Weavertown died at her home at 8 30 p m Tuesday from a complication of diseases. She was a member of the Amish church daughter of the late Daniel and Rebecca Stoltzfus Esh. Survived by her husband two sons John of Weavertown Daniel of New Holland five grandchildren and many siblings. Services will be held at 9 a m today at the home of Daniel Petersheim Weavertown with burial in Myer s cemetery.
Miss Frances Martin daughter of Mr and Mrs Gilbert D Martin of Lancaster and Karl L Knosp son of Mrs Maude Knosp near Leola were married at 4 pm Wednesday in the Salem Reformed church parsonage Hellers by Rev Fred D Pentz. They stood unescorted and reception followed at the bride’s home. The bride wore white crepe with matching accessories and a corsage of white roses and daisies. The bride is a graduate of Upper Leacock Township High School and the groom works at Armstrong Cork Company. They will live at 51 West Cottage street Millersville.
A clinic under the Lancaster County Society for Crippled Children will take place at Lancaster General Hospital on June 28 with Dr J T Rugh of Philadelphia Orthopedic Surgeon in charge and Dr Norris J Kirk assisting. Children to be examined or operated must be registered at the Visiting Nurses Association office in Old City Hall before June 19.
Miss Lena Sensenig daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael Sensenig of Stevens wed Paul E Brubacher son of Mr and Mrs Emanuel Brubacher also of Stevens at Bishop John Laurel’s Goodville residence Saturday at ten. Attended by Landis Sensenig and wife. They depart for Canada trip and plan to move to the bride’s parents’ home in July.
The Howard Sisters gospel group will sing at the worship service at St Stephen Reformed Church next Sunday morning before Sunday school at 8 a m. The church's Vacation Bible School continues for another week with closing exercises set for Friday evening June 18 at 7 80 p m ST.
The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Blue Ball Fire Company hosts a strawberry festival on Saturday June 12 at the Fire Hall Blue Ball. The event runs from 4 30 p m to 9 00 p m and offers ice cream chicken corn soup sandwiches and strawberries.
Miss Dorothy M Kurtz daughter of Parke and the late Anna M Kurtz of Leacock and James Mertz Jr son of the late James and Anna Mertz of Ephrata were married Monday at 8 pm in Elkton Maryland by Rev C M Kope of the Baptist church at his home. They were attended by Mr and Mrs Elmer Bentz of Lebanon and will reside in Ephrata.
The Christian Endeavor Society of the Intercourse United Brethren church lists June leaders. On June 18 the topic is Finding Romance and Adventure in Good Reading led by Mrs. Harry Slack. June 20 features How True to Life are the Movies led by Mrs. Carl Weaver. June 27 presents Recreation That Develops Character led by Paul Hicks.
The W M A of Ranck's United Brethren church will meet at the home of Mrs Levi Ranck on Saturday afternoon at 2 p m ST.
Rev Frederick Melsheimer the second president of Franklin College and credited founder of the first common school in Pennsylvania will be honored by a marker in New Holland Sunday afternoon August 29. The stone purchased from T M Stork Sons bears the inscription linking him to entomology education and Lutheran pastorates. The Lancaster County Historical Society received school board permission to place the 18 by 24 inch tablet on the school grounds.
The St Stephen Reformed church Ladies Aid met in the social rooms for a program titled A Trip to China presented by Mrs Paul V Taylor a returned missionary from Wuchang China. Chicken chow mein prepared by Dr Paul V Taylor followed and he shared Chinese recipes. The annual picnic is set for July 14 at Long Park with no August meeting. Hostesses included Mrs C G Bachman Mrs Ralph Roseboro Mrs Amelia Groff Mrs Barbara Hess Mrs George F Besore Mrs H E Rutter and Mrs Fannie Snyder.

A singing school starts Saturday at 7 30 PM led by Henry D Weaver of Harrisonburg Virginia. Sessions run on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday evenings through June and the first week in July with the public invited.
