Despite daily rain fears Memorial Day went ahead with a parade from the school grounds at 1 45 pm led by Chief Marshal A Y Geist and featuring veterans, Boy Scouts, Red Cross societies, Joan of Arc impersonator Helen Becker, and silk mill workers. The Harner’s theatre program included prayers, songs, and Rev E A Baudén speeches linking Civil War liberty to World War I ideals with a Liberty Loan Honor Flag presentation and a final salute as the procession moved to Luther avenue.

Morgantown Church Burned by Lightning in Storm
During a violent thunderstorm the St. Thomas Episcopal church in Morgantown was struck and burned to the ground. Town residents battled the flames for six hours, saving contents but losing the stone structure with fifteen memorial windows and a new bell. Partial insurance may offset part of the heavy loss.
