Democratic party platform pledges to restore Union and rights
The National Democratic platform condemns Republican rule, demands immediate restoration of civil government in all states, amnesty for past political offences, and redress of taxation. It calls for a single currency, reduction of the army, abolition of certain Reconstruction measures, protection for naturalized citizens, and adherence to states rights under the Constitution. It praises Andrew Johnson and urges conservatives to unite against what it describes as tyranny.
