Indiana Campaign Opens in 1872 Debates and Endorsements
The Indiana political season begins with Greeley and Brown support surging across the state. Indiana Governor hopeful Henneick writes in support, Bayard endorses the nominees, and Democrats rally for Greeley. The Evansville papers note campaign energy, local subscriptions, and Morton views from Major Gordon, urging Radical allies to hear him speak. An Evansville troupe misses engagements as court reports hint at local mischief. A Williams College style note praises the Evansville College's growth and new women’s scholarships.
