A kitchen fire at the Kaufman House in Zelienople caused about 200000 dollars in damage. The blaze started around 3 30 pm in the stove hood and spread to the roof despite the kitchen suppression system working. No workers or customers were hurt. The building sits on the site of an 1837 hotel later rebuilt. The current owners purchased it in 1903.

New Castle landlord Kevin Dwayne Boyer is held for court after being charged with criminal homicide and multiple assaults in the Aug 24 fatal shooting of tenant Jason Pegg. Judge Scott McGrath ruled all charges. Boyer, 37, is jailed. Pegg, 32, and Boyer argued over $50 before Boyer fired through a closed screen door.
Witnesses describe a confrontation after a flash, Gordon Rees Jr. was shot in the chest and died at Jameson Hospital. Solomon admits firing from close range after an alleged car-standoff, with a 9 mm shell casing found on Williams Street. The case, handled by Assistant district attorney Thomas Minett, includes defense by Dennis Elisco and Larry Keith.
