Helsinki reports the Finnish government will dispatch a six to eight man delegation to Moscow within two to three days to discuss Premier Stalin's demand for a military pact. The group will include representatives from several parties and military and economic advisers.

State police reported Pennsylvania rural highway fatalities fell by more than 20 percent in January and February. Ninety eight deaths over 60 days, down 25 from the same period in 1947. January fatalities were 42, down from 74 a year earlier.

Lowell R. Rooks of UNRRA urged Congress to send American forces to China to equip train and direct Chinese troops under Chiang Kai-shek. He said economic aid alone will fail without military assistance and called for immediate use of US troops to provide supplies munitions and tactical guidance to China in a grave situation.
Ray H. Simmons aged 23 of Mechanicsburg was sentenced in Adams county court to death in the electric chair for the clawhammer murder of 70 year old farmer Herbert L. Humpert on his Gardners area farm last year. Accomplice Robert L Staley was convicted of first degree murder and given life imprisonment.
A weekend of carnage in Allegheny County left two dead and seven wounded. Victims include a Pittsburgh writer and a McKeesport man. three police officers, an innocent bystander, a laundryman, and two others were among the wounded. Francisco Miramontes, 43, was arrested in a fatal knifing that ended a 20 year feud between him and Tim Reza, 43. Clarence Shay, 26, was seriously wounded in a dispute. two youths were stopped after a burglary, but gunfire wounded Chmelynski and Kercher. Di Pofi, 23, was wounded but dragged to safety by a handcuffed companion. Continued on Page Two.
A 17-year-old Eminence girl Betty Jane Kroeger was held on first degree murder charges for killing her parents Fred Kroeger and Minnie Kroeger. Police say she admitted to the double slayings saying she killed her mother earlier and shot her father to prevent discovery. Her body of the mother was found at home and the father in a shop where he slept after burglaries. Neighbors reported the couple missing for four days prompting the discovery and arrest after the girl returned from shopping in St Louis.
Maj. Gen. Claire L. Chennault, former Flying Tigers commander and head of Chinese Civil Aviation, arrived in Washington from Shanghai to testify before Congress on U S aid to China. He was accompanied by his Chinese wife.
Jewish leaders hail the merger of Haganah and Irgun Zvai Leumi, forming about 40 000 fighters for a combined front. The pact ends internal strife, with Irgun to remain autonomous under army approval, as talks on top command continue amid renewed Arab infiltration concerns.
Chairman Harry Helmick urged division leaders and Red Cross workers to intensify canvassing this week as reports lag behind. The next report is due Friday at 4 p m in the chapter house on N Beaver Street. The goal for the year remains $35,000.
