The navy department issued a warning to all shipping last night after reports of a heavily armed German commerce raider operating in the West Indies. The alert was flashed to ships east of longitude 40 between Cape Race and Bermuda to take precautions.
The city draft board has identified 37 married men since May 18, 1917, in the first thousand draftees. These men were notified to appear before the board to prove any children born before June 9, 1918.

Alfred W. Snee, 50, farmer of Union Township, was found dead in his barn last night by a man loading a horse. The death appears self inflicted due to illness and despair. Survived by wife Mary and children Russell and Wilbur, plus four brothers and three sisters. Funeral time to be announced.

A joint meeting of County Fuel Administrator John Knox W C Smith superintendent of New Castle Traction lines Robert M White assistant city solicitor and members of the fuel committee of the public safety committee and traction company officials was held yesterday afternoon at the public safety offices. The group considered the national fuel administration skip stop order and left to traction officials the task of drafting a schedule of stops and eliminating those least needed.
