Remains Found Near Independence Hall Unearthed
Archaeologists uncovered 15 18th century burials beneath Independence Mall in Philadelphia where a Presbyterian church cemetery once stood from 1750 to 1804. The bones will be studied for sex age and cause of death, then moved to Mount Vernon Cemetery as National Constitution Center construction proceeds on a $200 million Independence Mall redesign slated to open in 2002.
