Mercer Street parking bond payments reviewed by solicitor
The Mercer Street parking garage has generated revenue for the New Castle Parking Authority for 21 years, yet $1,105,000 in principal remains on the bond. Authority solicitor S. Sanford Kantz says the sum is manageable and expects payoff in 2012, noting the authority refinanced bonds three times since 1972 to fund projects like the Towne Mall, now the Galleria. Two bond payments per year are required, with about $113,000 due in August, and Kantz emphasizes no payments have ever been missed.
