Blood vials enable funeral for 9/11 fire chief Stack
Thousands of firefighters saluted a flag draped casket bearing two small vials of Battalion Chief Lawrence Stack’s blood. The finds finally allowed a Roman Catholic funeral Mass for a hero who died during the World Trade Center attacks after 15 years with no remains. Stack, who aided victims on 9/11, donated blood for a child with cancer before the attacks. His sons, both NYC firefighters, watched as the procession passed. Theresa Stack spoke of hope, and the family received his helmet at Saints Philip and James Church on Long Island.
