New Castle prepares for a massive Pentecost service on Sunday evening June 8 in the Cathedral. An immense chorus will sing as Bishop Warren Lincoln Rogers delivers the Pentecostal sermon marking the churchs 1900th anniversary.
The sixty fourth annual Pennsylvania Department Grand Army of the Republic encampment will begin Monday in Sidnep. Delegates and visitors are expected to fill the city for a week of events including memorials, registrations, and camp activities with Colonel Edwin John Prittle to assume command at the opening ceremonies Sunday afternoon.
The notice lists New Castle August fairs with secretary names W B Rodgers C M Dickinson J C Uber Charles B Hines Brandon Wright and J P Orr for Mercer Central Beav er County and Stoneboro dates August 5 through September 19 plus notes on reunions and Pentecost observances. Crowds expected in New Castle for G A R welcome and a thick orchard along the New Castle New Wilmington road described as jungle like. Special report from Claremore Oklahoma notes demand for regular passenger service linking Beverly and Claremore. Tulsa area airports set a world record in May with 10,212 passengers. Croydon, England, was second with 4,690. Authors praise cheap rates and safe service.
More than 200 seniors received diplomas in the 53rd graduation exercises at Benjamin Franklin junior high auditorium. President Hoover and fifteen guests departed from Washington for a Blue Ridge fishing camp on the Rapidan. The motor caravan includes Hurley Mills Hope Richardson and other officials. Mrs Hoover will join them at camp for an extended convalescence after injuries from a fall.

The Daughters of Union Veterans of Pennsylvania present a monument placed east of the public square. The ceremony at four o'clock will honor the organization founders and will be presented by a state officer. Mayor Gillespie and city officials will attend to accept the gift.
Firefighters limited a $100,000 blaze that gutted the old American Express building in downtown Chicago. Three firemen were injured when roof and floors collapsed into the basement. the injured were Joseph Daniels Patrick Hughes and Lieutenant W Quail.
Washington June 7 The senate opposition to the naval treaty united in silence as Secretary Stimson refused to submit secret London conference documents to Chairman Borah. He sent data on the Geneva 1927 talks and other data, arguing disclosure could harm future talks and public interest. He cited Washington and Harding precedents and reaffirmed there are no hidden understandings beyond the treaty and suggested notes.
About 200 Civil War veterans and their wives are expected Sunday evening at 7 o clock on a special Pennsylvania Railroad train arriving at the west side station. Rex Patch of the transportation committee will meet the train and arrange hotel and home quarters for the visitors during the convention. The train originates in Philadelphia and will stop at major points along the main line to pick up delegates.
Western Pennsylvania carriers plan a joint protest with Mahoning and Shenango valley shipping interests against the Interstate Commerce Commission order abolishing certain circuitous rail routes. A hearing is set in Washington on June 17 to challenge the discontinuance which carriers say would retard traffic by forcing load interchanges between long and short hauls.
