Questions loom over Bergdahl Taliban swap details
Washington AP The Pentagon’s 2010 finding Bergdahl walked away from his unit set off a cautious search. Yet talks to free him persisted as the U.S. sought to fracture Taliban leadership by trading five detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Qatar. The mechanism drew criticism for urgency and legality, with lawmakers urging proper notice and independence from battlefield risk concerns. Bergdahl remained in stable condition in a German hospital as discussions continued.

Park officials in Mount Rainier National Park say it is too dangerous to send crews after six climbers missing since they likely fell thousands of feet while ascending Liberty Ridge. Heavy ice and rock avalanches make retrievals too risky. two guides and four climbers could remain buried near 12,800 feet.
