Plans for the Grand Army of the Republic Pennsylvania Department encampment in the city are set. A major aerial parade will occur on June 11 with hundreds in uniform while the parade begins downtown at three o clock. Officials promise a memorable campfire and spectacle not often seen in the region.
Newspapers in Bucharest report that former Crown Prince Carol has reconciled with his ex wife Princess Helen mother of King Michael and plans to return to Romania within a month on June 1. He had separated from Mme Lupescu after renouncing the throne in 1925 and has lived in exile mainly in France.
Eleven criminally insane prisoners escaped from the State Hospital for the Criminally Insane at Ionia Michigan on June 3 after threatening to kill the night superintendent Eugene Owen. Joe Wells, third member of the Irene Schroeder- Glenn Dague- Joe Wells bandit trio, is sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of Deputy Sheriff Lee Wright of Chandler. Wright died after being wounded during the pursuit near the Estrella mountains as Irene and her confederates attempted a last stand.
Absecon New Jersey police chief William Schoephlein, 41, was shot and killed when he tried to enter a house formerly a speak-easy. George Howard Much, 31, Atlantic City hauling contractor, surrendered and admitted the slaying. Two women and a man, Dorothy Corbeau 30, Mary Brown 22, and Richard Powell 22, all of Atlantic City, were held as witnesses. Much said he fired as he believed the chief would enter the house after they were inside arranging furnishings.
At the New Castle municipal course the May report shows 2,051 dollars in revenue and 4,929 nine hole rounds. The course opened May 1 and drew 2,616 individual tickets and 1,001 season passes, with 30 to 50 players waiting on busy days.
Official tabulation of the Allegheny county vote for the Republican gubernatorial candidates is due late today. Gifford Pinchot leads by 9,781 votes from 1,397 of 1,458 districts statewide, while in Pittsburgh Brown leads by 7,381 with 29 districts remaining to report.
Dr. Harry C. McKown of the University of Pittsburgh will speak at Shenango township high school's first commencement in the school auditorium on Wednesday June 4 at 8 p m EST. Chicago authorities probe the Moran Capone feud after a fusillade of 12 shots in an alley behind the Belmont Hotel. Witnesses saw a hatless man slumped beside a fleeing driver, believed to be the seventh victim in the rising gang war.
