Tacoma December 31 A report that Dr William W Mattson society physician and father of missing 10 year old Charles may have met the kidnapper within hours stirred northwest authorities. An informer said there had been a meeting but gave no details on payment or contact.
Community anticipates progress from electric water companies in 1937 as a severe rainstorm and strong winds hit in the early hours. Shenango River rises to nine feet over two days while motorists linger on curbside door habits. Today marks the final day for 1936 license tabs ahead of midnight tag changes and patrol campaigns.

Police tracked two robbers who seized 1350 in Mapleton First National Bank. The pair forced Clerk Robert Querry to the floor and fled in an automobile before authorities checked main highways and searched nearby mountains for a mountain hideout. The men are believed to be the same duo tied to several recent regional hold ups.

Wade A Smith 34 of Rockford Ohio was killed by Sheriff J D O Neal and Marshal George Livingston during a running gun battle near Port Lavaca Texas as they thwarted a kidnap attempt on Ben Wasserman his wife and daughter Bennie Mae. Smith was shot and killed. O Neal was wounded in the leg. The body was held for fingerprint identification.
