Prof. G A Dickson, superintendent, denies rumors that students will be withheld from promotion. He states that no such plan exists and that lenient grading will be limited to encourage attendance and study. Teachers will base recommendations largely on attendance and effort, with promoted pupils expected to advance next year.
Peter Kiem and George Kywolek were sentenced by Judge Emery to not less than fifteen nor more than eighteen months in the penitentiary for attempting to assault Pearl Syeza near Jackson. Klemm and Kwolek were in a car with two others. one man and a woman left, and the others allegedly attempted the attack. Aho walked to New Castle seven miles away. George Tertian, convicted of attempting to assault a Dillwood City girl, received five months in the county jail.
In New Castle the Register and Recorder reports a year ending with about 4 909 deeds marriages and other instruments filed. The year is expected to close near 6 000 with roughly 14 recordings per day. This surpasses last year’s 4 404 and 4 415 increase, marking a peak in the rest estate market.
Reports from the Red Cross drive arrive daily across jurisdictions. Washington township shows 251 members while New Wilmington district chaired by Mrs. W W Campbell enrolls many families. Across the area totals reach 881 enrolled with 5055 in New Wilmington area. Manoning township precinct reports $231 raised and Hdeuburg at 170.
A collision occurred on the Moravia eGreat Bill last night at JO730 clack Whoo automobiles driven by Hal Sempsey and W J Shoarese ta. One cycle was injured and cars badly damaged the Snoan machine thrown on the sidewalk. Ritty offices placed Dempsey under arrest on charge of operating an automobile while under the influence, a $100 forfeit required for his appearance. He left the forfeit stand this morning.
County Commissioner announced offices will close on New Year Day. Officials canvassed agreed to close all offices tomorrow as part of the plan.
Willa J Bills and Karl Nwing face divorce actions citing cruel and barbarous treatment. Bills wed August 1914 and separated September 1917. Nwing married July 1912 and separated September 1918. Attorneys are Thomas W Dickey and Edwin KK respectively. Deserts related claims appear in court filings.
Mrs. Abram Burnside of Marshall avenue hosted visitors this week to a Christmas display crafted by her husband, a National Biscuit executive and former electrician. A miniature town with a post office and railroad sits beside a central electric tree whose peaches and bears glow as a music box plays carols. The exhibit, arranged for daughter Eleanor Burnside, drew admiring friends to the Burnside residence.
Francis Delva McGovern, known as Young Terry McGovern, of Philadelphia, died in hospital from a fractured skull after Frankie Britt knocked him out as the bell rang to end the sixth round. Britt was arrested as the ring outcome led to fatal injuries and a late- night hospital operation.
Albers Lt Kilngensmith of 10% South Crawford Avenue, linked to US personnel, is at home on a Federal furlough. He witnessed the accession of surrender and the welcoming of the Wyoming among ships in New York ceremonies. He also observed the ovation at the event.
A motion for a new trial has been filed delaying sentencing for Mark Levine who is convicted in state court. He faces a related federal indictment in Diltsburg over the same offense. bail has been posted.
A weekly chicken supper is planned for Wednesday evening and will be served this Tuesday instead of the regular time. A fine arrangement has been made. Pliler, previously with the relief administration in Washington and recently moved to the treasury department, is home for a few days on business.

King George and Queen Mary join the farewell at Victoria Station as decorated streets and open carriages carry the royal party and Mrs Wilson. A royal and aerial escort will accompany the ship across the channel.
The Boys Work committee of the YMCA will meet at supper in the Y rooms at Toledo and Thursday evening. The committee will operate with the boys secretary to push the extension program and extend YMCA service to all sections of the city.
Washington Senators decide to keep Walter Johnson as manager as Clark Griffith arrives in New York to discuss trade options with owner Warry Frazer and potential moves involving Jack Barry and Clyde Milan amid ongoing team speculation.
Real estate transfers list First National Bank of Ellwood to Frank E. Moore for 6000 dollars, Moore to Pennsylvania Iron and Steel Protocls Co. for 5010, plus several smaller transfers in Ellwood and Shenango. The city of New Castle paid about 800 dollars to fix the patrol wagon after a wreck. Rentals, mechanic time, and parts added to the bill. Crow Bros. provided a large car for 48 dollars, then Warry Mc Daniels supplied a smaller vehicle at 5 dollars daily, totaling 194.50. The McDanicks car was replaced by Samuel Clark’s vehicle, in service since November 24, about five weeks, at 5 dollars daily, with around 175 dollars owed in rental fees. The council has not formally declared the patrol out of service, though it was back in service this morning. Repairs and wear-and-tear to Clark’s car and painting costs estimate about 200 dollars.
The police patrol was placed in service this morning after having been out of service since October. The car has been completely overhauled and painted. The old leather seats were removed and the upholstering was badly worn after four years of service. New seats are wooden slats and are said to be comfortable and more sanitary.
The Lawrence County Gun Club will hold its annual shoot on New Year’s Day at 3 o’clock on the club grounds near Youngstown. Prizes will be awarded for the highest scores, and all county residents with shotguns are invited to participate, with special urging for soldiers and sailors to attend.
Contractors Scanlon and Connelly press on through winter grading the New Castle and Beaver Road with efforts to finish by spring. The plan aims to eliminate grades in several spots, notably between Moravia and Newport where a railroad path replaces the river for about 1400 feet, enabling a straighter, easier grade and earlier completion for summer use.

Mrs Elmer Wise, 30, died at South Jefferson Street after illness. funeral at home then Greenwood cemetery.
Chief of police reported Mrs Joseph Frija and Evangeline Tency aged 15 found in Clarksburg West Virginia. Officer Flomer sent to bring back the two. Frija wife of a soldier from Camp Hollbird Maryland and Henry adopted daughter of the matron of the Holy Family. They were traced from Morgantown to Clarksburg and arrested. An Alderman Green information filed against Frija for cashing Christmas Savings checks belonging to Holy Family guests.
A gas fixture not properly repaired led to a minor blaze at the Verditt home on South Jefferson Street yesterday afternoon. The loss was slight. Tiarold Mersiimer has returned to United States General Hospital in Rusten, Mass., after a brief furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mershimer of Boat Washington.
Floyd Spear of 873 Court Street New Castle Pa proposes a soldiers home as Lawrence County memorial instead of a library. He argues funds from five million should aid sick and maimed veterans with a self supporting home near New Castle. He urges public groups to back a community memorial honoring living and dead soldiers.
A letter from Mr and Mrs Joan Fowler of New Springfield requests correction about a recent news item that stated Katharine Fowler, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Fowler, was married. They insist the note is in error and that they have no children.
The watch night committee at First O. E. Church arranged with traction officials to hold street cars headed east and north at the loop until 12 15 am to provide prompt transportation for attendees. The Mahoningtown car will depart the loop at 12 05 am as usual.
