Washington, Dec. 26 James M Doran prohibition commissioner said he was disappointed in Major Chester P Mills 25000 prize formula to curb bootleg channels by stopping diversion of industrial alcohol Doran said such diversion ceased to be an enforcement problem a year ago He said Mills plan ignores present conditions and merely repeats routine bureau practices The bootleggers are turning to illicitly distilled alcohol as the basis of treble liquor The bureau has kept industrial alcohol in proper channels though the contest may help arouse public opinion on enforcement efforts
Four men operated the New Castle post office on Christmas Day handling outgoing mail and special delivery letters while the rest of the staff observed the holiday. Carriers also worked apart from the usual holiday schedule. Workers rested with families, then returned to clear backlog and resume normal operations in a few days.
Motorcycle officer Richards located the stolen vehicle of Lawrence Robinson of R. D. 3. It had been taken on Christmas evening from the Public Square at Pollock Avenue and Phillips Street and left abandoned by the thieves.

Residents on Washington Street witnessed an unusual sight at about eleven today a complete airplane being towed along the street behind a truck. The open model light plane attached by its tail traveled at moderate speed. Its destination remained unknown.

W H Shipler superintendent of the Pennsylvania Engineering Works was seriously injured Christmas Eve after being struck by H H Snyder’s car at Highland avenue and Trim. He suffered a fractured right arm in two places, injuries to the right side and eye, with probable internal injuries. An X ray was to determine the full extent. He is at Shenango Valley Hospital in serious condition.
New Castle firemen were alert over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with no fires reported. Fire Chief Charles A. Lynn called it a line safety record and a source of local pride, noting that past seasons saw many more fires and attributing the improvement to a safety campaign.
